This former shack had received a makeover but remained a small, single level home that was not able to maximise its waterfront location.
With substantial two level homes on either side, building over the existing was obvious but came with construction and privacy issues.
Converting a former room into a new entry point and stair allowed the lower level to be reconfigured into bedrooms with a rumpus room opening onto an existing rear deck and the yard.
Elevating the kitchen, dining and living spaces over in open plan arrangement captured the connection to the water and views across Frederick Henry Bay.
External decks hover over existing roofed areas and were semi-enclosed to maintain privacy to and from adjacent houses.
The success of this addition is the integration with the existing, ensuring this beach house retains its shack heritage and runs with it.
