Revealing the layers of history

1/129 Bathurst Street is a heritage listed former residence that was purchased as the new home for the Green Team Advertising Agency. The exterior of the building was relatively untouched although repairs and stabilisation was required.

After years as a low cost rental property the interior was a relative blank canvas. Our approach was to retain remaining heritage features which included some of the fire place surrounds and an internal stair. The volumes of the existing rooms were retained and the new open plan work areas accommodated within. 

Specific care was taken to reveal the layers of history on a timber wall that was uncovered. This wall had numerous years of paint, wallpaper, hessian and newspaper all blistered and smoke damaged from some previous house fire. It now combines with a glass screened counter to form the new entry reception.
